How do I find out what’s going on at First UMC Orange (FUMCO)?
On the homepage of this website, click on the Events & Announcements link for a complete listing of church events. We also send out a bi-weekly newsletter, the Forum, which lists events and other information about how God is at work in and through FUMCO. The weekly worship bulletin also contains announcements about upcoming events.
How do you worship?
Our worship style is informal traditional; we sing classic hymns as well as newer praise choruses. On some Sundays, the choir and organ will lead music; other Sundays include more contemporary Christian music led by the choir and piano; while still other Sundays feature hymns and songs accompanied by a band of keyboard, guitars and percussion. Regardless of the Sunday, we honor the traditions of our faith and offer a blended worship style designed to inspire and encourage worshippers of all ages.
Where do my children go during the service?
All children are welcome to attend the worship service with their parents. We offer an age-appropriate Children's Bulletin, as well as a pamphlet (found in the pew pockets in the Sanctuary) for Adults Worshipping with Children.
• Nursery service is available for children (infant to age two) every Sunday morning from 9:00 to the conclusion of worship.
• During the worship service, children are invited to the chancel during “Children's Moments”, a time during which one of the leaders sits down with the children and briefly talks with them about a topic based on the day’s sermon. Following that, the children may return to sit with their parents or go to Children’s Activities. The children are supervised in the Education Building until their parents pick them up.
Do I have to be a member to take Communion?
Because it is the Lord's table, not ours, at which we eat, United Methodists place no restrictions on who may eat and drink at this holy meal. You do not have to be a member to partake. The invitation to the table is an invitation to a personal and lasting relationship with God through Jesus Christ. Everyone is welcomed; this includes persons of any age.
How do I get involved at FUMCO?
Everything offered at First UMC Orange is for anyone willing to participate, both visitors and members alike. Check the Events and Announcements section of our website, join us each Sunday to get up-to-the-minute announcements of events, or talk with one of our staff about an area in which you would like to participate.
What is expected of members?
• To worship regularly.
• To continue to grow in your faith by participating in small group study.
• To serve God with your hands, by volunteering in service to the congregation and the community and world.
• To give in proportion to your income.
How can I join First United Methodist church?
• You can join the church either by making a profession of faith in Jesus Christ or by transferring your membership from another congregation. The United Methodist Church accepts the baptism and membership of persons coming from other denominations.
• Our pastor or any of our staff will be happy to talk with you about joining the church and to answer any questions you might have.
• We offer occasional New Member Classes for persons considering membership.
What should I wear to church?
We want everyone to be comfortable when attending FUMCO. “Mortals look on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart.” (1 Samuel 16:7). Some members choose to dress in a more casual fashion (for example, men in a sport shirt) while others dress in a more traditional style (for example, men in a coat and tie). Whichever style you feel is appropriate, you'll be welcomed at First UMC Orange.
